What is Web 2.0?
| Blogging - diaries, journals for comment |
Blogging is a way of sharing thoughts and ideas with people. The word' blog' comes from the phrase 'web log', which essentially is just a log of your thoughts uploaded to the web. Blogs are really simple online journals or diaries and are great for sharing information and ideas about anything at all - there are no restrictions!
Blogs have become very popular over recent years as a novel way of communicating with others. The key to a blog's success is the responses from readers, which they can contribute through the comments section of each post. It is also essential that a blog is regularly updated so that your readers don't lose interest and stop reading it.
Blogs can be very powerful and there have been reports of Internet content, such as blogs becoming as important as newspapers and news bulletins in terms of informing people of events. Indeed, it is not unusual for news rooms to rely on blogs and other social networking sites for some of their content.
There are many good websites that can get you started with your blog, which can include text, links, images, videos and audio.
A popular traveller's website, www.getjealous.com, provides free travel blogs for intrepid travellers that want to keep their friends and families up to date with their adventures abroad - easier than large group emails! www.wordpress.com and www.blogger.com are other popular websites that offer free blog templates.
If you want to subscribe to some different blogs, to see what they are all about, www.blog.textease.com, www.edublogs.com and googleblog.blogspot.com are a good place to start. Most large companies now have blogs too so why not search your favourite websites to see what they are doing in the 'blogosphere'?
