What is Web 2.0?
A great way of keeping an eye on latest updates to your favourite blogs or podcasts is by subscribing through RSS feeds. Common on news and blog sites, feeds enable you to subscribe to websites that frequently update their content. This is useful if you don't have the time or inclination to trawl through websites frequently looking for updates. Most websites that include material that you can subscribe to will have an orange button with a white waveform on it - this indicates an RSS feed is available. To subscribe, just click on the button and follow the instructions on the site. Your feeds will be saved in the Feeds folder of your Favourites section in Internet Explorer enabling you to easily access them whenever it is convenient. You can also set intervals for when you want your computer to check for updates, for example, every 12 hours. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is usually free.
Websites that use feeds include: www.bbc.co.uk/news, blog.textease.com, blog.honeycombtools.com, blog.podiumpodcasting.com, www.dfes.gov.uk, education.guardian.co.uk and many others. Search your favourite websites to see for yourself.
